Financial Advisory Firm

ABOUT US

An Advisory Firm Focused on Emerging Markets Financings

  • MultiNational Strategies, Inc. was founded in 1979 as an offshoot of a Conference Board program established to help major American corporations assess country risk.  Since its inception it has remained focused on doing business in emerging markets, but its remit has expanded to include sovereigns as well as investors.  MNS International (MNS) is an independent investment banking and sovereign advisory firm with over three decades of experience in emerging markets.  MNS principals played leading roles in the first Latin American debt-equity swaps, and the firm is also credited with the design and implementation of the first “debt-for-nature” swap, done in Bolivia.
  • Following the collapse of the Former Soviet Union, MNS worked on assignments in the Commonwealth of Independent States, having provided financial sector technical assistance to governments and government agencies in over 10 countries in the CIS as well as advising on the first bank privatisation in the CIS (Zivnostenska Banka).  MNS also acted as principal adviser to the Czech Republic’s Ministry of Privatisation on sales to foreign investors.
  • Since 1997, MNS has been actively involved in advisory assignments and financial transactions in SEE such as the sale of the Bulgarian Postbank to American International Group, Inc. (AIG) and EFG Eurobank, adviser (as Hampshire Partners) to National Bank of FR Yugoslavia on restructuring of its Paris Club debt, financial adviser to Bulgaria’s Minister of Finance on the issuance of its debut Eurobond, financial adviser to the Prime Minister of Moldova on retirement of a $250 million bond issue held by OAO Gazprom and financial adviser to the national Romanian electricity company on $150 million debt swap.
  • Over the course of these advisory assignments MNS developed an expertise in working with Multilateral and Bilateral development agencies, which was the genesis of the GFAS.
  • More recently, our firm has expanded geographically (with current projects in all four continents) and into the impact investment sector (e.g. supporting projects which are both commercially viable and developmental), leveraging its expertise in the developing world.
